Quality Engineer Lead (Data Operations)

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
• Act as the QE contact for Data Ops and support teams.
• Mentor QA engineers and promote quality best practices.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering, DevOps, BI teams, and business SMEs.
• Manage defect triage, root cause analysis, and resolution of data issues.
• Support L2/L3 production incidents including data defects, report mismatches, and pipeline failures.
• Validate hotfixes, break-fix changes, and perform regression testing.
• Lead QA for data pipelines, transformations, schema changes, and reporting enhancements.
• Review requirements and designs for testability.
• Validate end-to-end data flow from source systems to BI reporting.
• Define and enforce data quality rules (accuracy, completeness, timeliness, consistency).
• Validate ETL/ELT pipelines and business rules.
• Perform data reconciliation and SQL-based validation.
• Support automation using tools such as DBT, Dataiku, and Airflow.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Define quality gates, SLAs, and quality metrics for Data Operations.
• Maintain test documentation and operational dashboards.
Key Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• 6–8+ years of experience in data-focused QA or testing roles, including leadership or SME experience.
• Experience testing ETL processes, data warehouses, data lakes, and transformations.
• Strong SQL knowledge (joins, window functions, aggregations, subqueries).
• Experience with tools such as Selenium, QuerySurge, Datagaps, AccelQ, Pytest, and Python.
• Experience validating BI reports using Power BI or Tableau.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, or BigQuery.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• QA certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, or CSQE.
• Familiarity with AI-based testing tools.
• Understanding of compliance standards.
